Cadets,
Please see below for a full update on some of our new opportunities for this week.
Education:
Sea Cadet Virtual Academy: Minecraft is a hugely popular sandbox-style game that has been around since 2011. Although there are different gameplay modes, you are only limited by your imagination in terms of what you can build and learn in the process, from complex machines to recreations of fictional or historical landmarks. This is a great way for cadets and adults alike to continue thinking about the Sea Cadet program and the Navy more broadly. On the Sea Cadet Virtual Academy, we are working on a build of a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, which you can view in the links provided. There is also a link to download the game, available for most online, mobile, and gaming console platforms. In addition to the download link, we are also linking to numerous education-challenges that you and your units could try together. · Sea Cadet Virtual Academy 3D Models Teen Mental Health Survey: We are planning a cadet-focused virtual training on how to stay mentally healthy during pandemic. But first we wanted to check-in with you on some of the challenges you are experiencing. This survey will help us address these challenges specifically during the training. Please take a few minutes to answer this very short survey. Thank you! (This is an anonymous survey, so it keeps the respondents’ identities private.) Please respond by Friday, 24 APR 2020. Thank you.
Training:
Ask the Warfare Officer Webinar: We will be kicking things off on Saturday 11 April at 1600 EDT with the Ask the Information Warfare Officer Webinar. This webinar about the Navy’s Information Warfare Community will provide cadets with a snapshot about each of the major Officer and Enlisted career fields that form it: Oceanography & Meteorology (METOC); Cryptologic Warfare; Intelligence; Information Professional; and Cyber Warfare Engineer. The briefing will be provided by an active duty Lieutenant Commander in the Cryptologic Warfare community and he will take questions afterwards.
Join the webinar here.
Ask the Chief Webinar: At 1700 EDT on 11 April we will also be hosting the fourth Ask the Chief Webinar. Please note this webinar will be on Saturday April 11 due to the holiday weekend. This week's Ask the Chief Webinar will be targeted for all cadets who have not yet attended Recruit Training. Our Senior Leadership Cadet Council Chiefs will discuss promoting to SA-T, preparing for Recruit Training, and general knowledge for our newer cadets.

Parent Webinar | How to Administer the PRT at Home: Have your parents join us for a live webinar on the topic of "How to administer the Physical Readiness Test" at home. Also known as the PRT, we will walk you through how to conduct the exam at home, and answer your questions. We are offering this webinar in two time slots to accommodate time zones and work schedules. We invite you to share your questions with us ahead of time here. If you are unfamiliar with Zoom meetings, please watch this video tutorial prior to the meeting Slot #1: Monday, April 13, 7:00 PM EDT, 4:00 PM Pacific Time Slot #2: Monday, April 13, 10:00 PM EDT, 7:00 PM Pacific Time Join the webinar here. FREE Online Heartsaver First Aid/CPR/AED Training for Cadets & Adults: We are pleased to offer free online Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Training to the first 1,000 cadets or adult volunteers to sign up. Over 500 people have already signed up to take advantage of this! This is not a required training, but is very beneficial to anyone who wants to be prepared in an emergency. Completing the online course is the first step toward receiving an American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Course Completion card, which is valid for two years. The second step is to attend an in-person American Heart Association training, which you are required to pay for separately (in-person training is not covered by USNSCC, only the on-line portion). You can find a local in-person training session by visiting cpr.heart.org. To sign up for the free online training, please fill out this google form. Once we receive your request, we will send you a link to take the online course, at not cost to you.
Communication:
COVID-19 Information: We want to ensure that each of you is able to quickly reference past emails and get up to date current information about our response to this outbreak. We will continue to use www.seacadets.org/covid19 as the main information source for our parents and cadets during this time.
Housekeeping: Cadet Medical Exams: Medical exam requirements for cadets and adult volunteers are postponed indefinitely, due to COVID-19.
Thank you for your continued dedication to the Sea Cadets. Keep up the motivation, we are walking with you through this difficult time.
All the best,
